Cockadoodle ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services (the "Service").
When you create an account, or join our waitlist on our website, we collect your email address and full name (and a password, for account creation). You can also set a display name and choose a preset avatar ("pfp") for your profile — we don't collect an uploaded profile photo.
Cockadoodle's core feature is a daily check-in ("log") where you describe what you did, your plans, and your mood. Depending on how you choose to submit a log, we collect:
Saved logs (your written or transcribed text, mood, topics, and any goals you track) are stored so you can review your own history and so we can generate the features described below.
If you grant location permission, we can attach your approximate location to a log. We convert your device's GPS coordinates into a general place name (city, region, country) and store both the coordinates and the place name with that log. Location sharing is optional and tied to your device's permission setting — you can decline it and still use Cockadoodle fully. See "Information Shared With Your Flock" below for how this location data may be visible to other users.
To send you push notifications (like streak reminders or a nudge from a flock member), we collect a device push token. We do not collect other device identifiers.
While you're in the middle of writing a log — before you save it — a draft (including any text, an in-progress voice recording or photo, and any location you've attached) is saved locally on your device so you don't lose your work if you close the app. This draft data is not sent to our servers until you finish and submit the log.
We use your information to:
We rely on a small number of third-party providers to operate Cockadoodle. We do not sell your personal information to anyone, and we don't use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
| Provider | What we share | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Cloud database & storage provider | Account data, logs, images, flock/group data, push tokens, location data — essentially all data described above | Database, authentication, and file storage |
| Google (Gemini) | Your log text (typed or transcribed), and, for weekly/flock summaries, short excerpts from recent logs | Parsing mood/topics from your logs, and generating AI-written weekly recaps, personal insights, and flock summaries |
| OpenAI (Whisper) | Your voice recording, only if you record a log by voice | Transcribing speech to text. The recording is discarded immediately after transcription. |
| Push notification provider | Push notification token and notification content | Delivering push notifications to your device |
These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes.
Cockadoodle is a social app — logs you submit are visible to the members of any flock you share them with. Specifically, flock members can see:
We do not share your email address or password with other users.
If you invite someone to a flock using a shareable link, the flock's name and description may be visible in a public link preview (for example, when the link is shared or unfurled in a messaging app) before the recipient joins Cockadoodle. Your individual log content is never exposed this way.
You can delete your account at any time from within the app. When you do, we take reasonable steps to delete your account data, including your logs, images, and location history, from our systems. Voice recordings are already deleted as part of normal operation, well before any account deletion. As with most cloud services, some information may persist for a limited time in backups before it is fully purged.
We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit and at rest, and private, access-controlled storage for photos. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can manage most of this yourself within the app (editing your profile, deleting individual logs, or deleting your account). For anything you can't do in-app — such as requesting a copy of your data — contact us and we'll assist you directly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us at privacy@cockadoodle.app.
